Bill: Réformes Constitutionnelles

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lutte Féministe de Libération

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2443

Description[?]:

The following constitutional reforms are made with an effort at bipartisanship.

It's time to increase the number of representatives by a small amount to keep up with expanding growth. A Sénat of 150 members could be acceptable to all parties, especially as its division (100 seats for 2/3rds, 75 for 1/2) is easy to remember.

The removal of the phrase "Rildanor Royal" from the national animal is simply common sense.

A new, simple one verse anthem built around the new motto in both English and French is an important step towards finishing Rildanor's official transition to a French nation.

MessageThe anthem in particular (which is a pieced together version of several stanzas of the Olympian anthem) I like because it's simple and easily translated into both English and French, something we wanted before. This really should be a bipartisan vote.

MessageAlso, it was my hope we could get this passed before ADER goes inactive and some joke party joins us that wants the anthem to be something ridiculous, like "LOLZ, noob."

MessageThe anthem is also patriotic (which the right should like) without being militant (which the left should like).

IC: What's the point of a militant, unpatriotic anthem?

MessageWhat about "I Vow to Thee, My Country". Surely that is non-militant and patriotic enough to please all sides?

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

I heard my country calling, away across the sea,
Across the waste of waters she calls and calls to me.
Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head,
And round her feet are lying the dying and the dead.
I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns,
I haste to thee my mother, a son among thy sons.

And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.

Unfortunately, the best I can do is a babelfish translation. Maybe one of the Canadians here can find a copy of it in French, since I believe it is also sung in Canada on Remembrance Day.

MessageWell that's really an English song, I'm not sure if it's even sung in French in Canada.

My main attachment to the current anthem is the fact that it's been there for centuries. It has only been revised a few times, while still retaining the original structure.

MessageYes, I know that, but it doesn't even rhyme. There's semblance of a rhythmic pattern, and it would be a pain to include a French translation. My proposed anthem (which doesn't look like it's gaining much support) is at least song-like, though short, and easily translated.

    Random fact: It is not allowed to call more than 5 elections in 5 game years in a nation. The default sanction for a player persisting in the early election tactic will be a seat reset.
