Bill: Modernization of Industry Act of 2440

Details

Submitted by[?]: Neo-Epicurean Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2441

Description[?]:

Article 1: Allowing armaments to be exported to any nation will increase our export rate, stimulate the development of a strong defense industry, and create high-paying jobs.

Article 2: Abolishing state-owned industries will eliminate these inefficient, underperforming companies and enhance competition in the marketplace, thus strengthening the economy. It will also lessen the tax burden to citizens and corporations alike. The government can still intervene if an industry vital to national security threatens to go out of business.

Article 3: Subsidies to defense industries also encourage waste and stifle competition. The increase in exports allowed by Article 1 will serve to enhance the income of the arms manufacturers and allow the best companies to thrive because of market advantages, rather than being propped up by the taxpayers.

Article 4: Deregulation of private postal services will also promote competition and strengthen the economy. The national post office should be retained because this is an area in which we should provide affordable services to all citizens, even those in sparsely populated or remote areas.

MessageSeems fairly reasonable. Vox Popularis would still prefer a fully nationalized Defense sector, but can accept the bill in it's present form.

MessageArticle 4 is one of the more controversial proposals, and even within the Neo-Epicurean Party there were mixed feelings about including it.

MessageIt is clear that the right of workers to strike is held dearly in Rutania, and after due consideration, we will not seek to curb that right. The offending article has been removed.

We have added another article allowing the free export of conventional weaponry.

(4) STRONGLY support;

(3) STRONGLY support;

(2) Moderately support.....we would prefer that the government just SUBSIDIZE failing industries, but that is better than the current law.

(1) ADAMANTLY oppose!!! DFP strongly supports Free Trade but we are also committed fully to NATIONAL SECURITY. We just cannot allow weaponary to be sold to enemy nations or terrorists like Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda, etc.

MessageWe disagree with 3 and believe that defense is too important for the government not to fund. However the government should not monopolize defense industries either.

All other proposals are supported, and the bill is a fair compromise.
