Bill: Changing the National Sport
Details

Voting deadline: June 2441
Description[?]:
The DSP, feeling that fencing, as in the drull Aristocratic fashion of the west is not a good national sport, proposes it be changed to Kendo. Kendo in itself is a form of fencing, but it requires discipline of the mind, body and spirit, it also helps to cultivate ones self and is a martial art in itself. |

Message | Kendo is less stupid so I vote yes though I maintain Buzkashi should be the national sport. |

Message | Have you every been to a fencing match, or ever fenced yourself? It might come across as snobby and aristocratic (two things I value), but it has just as much as that "cultivation of one's self" stuff as Kendo has. Just because its from the "mysterious" Orient doesn't mean that it's enlightened and wise. Somehow Eastern philosophy is renowned as wise just because it hashes out ambiguous, contradictory, "fortune cookie" quotes. For instance: "There is nothing more visible than what is secret, and nothing more manifest than what is minute" (Confucius). What's that supposed to mean? Nothing. It just sounds wise because it doesn't make sense. Likewise, eastern martial arts require the same level of discipline as fencing, soccer, baseball, tennis, etc. It just sounds really cool because of meaningless catch-phrases like "mind, body, and spirit," and "discipline," and "cultivate." Self control, Keeping your spirits high, exercising your body, and focusing your thoughts are common to all sports. No offense to anyone (DSP), I just need to rant. |

Message | Actually, I do understand what the Confucius quote means. When you try to keep something a secret, it becomes obvious you're hiding something, and the smallest things are the most important because they make up the bigger things, and from a quantum physicist viewpoint, at the smallest level, particles themselves can manifest into reality. I have actually vested time in learning about both Eastern and Western cultures, and while I've never fenced myself, I have watched it before, and I've watched Kendo, and there is a difference. |

Message | The AU is wondering whether to consider this a personal attack on their constituents. The fine, elegant form of fencing is the perfect model upon which Sekowo society should be based. We cannot support the brutish ideals this bill suggests! (Although we really have no problem with Kendo.) |

Random fact: In cases where a party has no seat, the default presumption should be that the party is able to contribute to debates in the legislature due to one of its members winning a seat at a by-election. However, players may collectively improvise arrangements of their own to provide a satisfying explanation for how parties with no seats in the legislature can speak and vote there. |
