Bill: Eliminating Loopholes in Adoption
Details
Submitted by[?]: Söhne der Freiheit
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2096
Description[?]:
The simple fact of the matter is, unless we have 24/7 surveillance of every single person who tries to adopt, we have no way of knowing whether they are really heterosexual or not. They can walk in alone today and tomorrow have a boyfriend, this is too big a loophole to overlook. Not only that, but time and again studies have shown that children are raised best by a mother and father. To ensure stability and some measure of normalcy, to adopt a child candidates must be a married, heterosexual couple. Felons may not adopt children. At least one member of the couple must be employed, or have a permanent source of income. The combined income of both parents must be reasonable to provide for the family. The couple must have a permanent residence which has a bathroom, kitchen, telephone, and at least two bedrooms. The house must pass safety regulations. It is to the discretion of the adoption service as to which couple a child will be adopted by. They will naturally prefer wealthier couples with more time to spend with their children, who live in safer neighbourhoods. The adoptive couple is subject to evaluations by the adoption service once every three days for the first two months of the adoption, once a week for the remainder of the year, and once a month for the following three years. Let's give our children safe, loving homes. |

Message | I dont like the current situation or the proposed but may I say the proposed is an abhorrent invasion into the private lives of our constituents purely on ideology based lines. Yes studies show that children are less (and by less it is so marginal that it barely makes a difference in comparison with the genes they have) likely to suffer major social problems if they have two "parents"- (whether they are biological or not seems not to matter much at all until much later in life) not as the right wing media and right wing parties claim- a mother and a father. Moreover, studies also show that a loving relationship between parents is vital. Children raised in heterosexual households that are violent/abusive/where the parents are just together because its easier than splitting are far more likely to be prone to psycholgical problems than children of gay or lesbian parents are ever to face (heterosexual couples are far more likely to suffer from such things in their relationships- who knows why?). |

Message | Although I recognize the reason of this bill, I am not sure about not letting single parents raise children. At this moment I am closer to abstaining or voting no to this bill. |

Message | I will vote no on this bill and regardless of the outcome propose to change the law in favour of more freedom in the adoption process, rather than less. Passing this law will not encourage any more heterosexual couples to adopt, so all of those who would have been adopted by singles then have to remain in care. Not only is this expensive, but children who have been in care are overrepresented by 50 times in mental hospitals and prisons. It is the worst possible way to grow up, far worse than growing up with a caring single parent of homosexual parents could ever be. |
