From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | That is a problem. On the other hand, why should the state spend millions of dollars supporting an unproductive and frankly disruptive portion of society. The inmates owe a debt to the people for their actions and they can pay it off by at the very least supporting the institution they are housed in. The conditions are no worse than any other workplace. THink of it as community service =) |

From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | Perhaps there could be an extra part added to the description stating that it is the prisoner's choice to work - perhaps working will reduce their sentence. |

From | Libertarian Party of Valruzia | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | I don't think they should be given a choice whether to work, but this should apply for only certain crimes. and of course, complying to all the labour laws and such. |

From | Deadly Buzz Party | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | I fully support prison labour. They could work for money which they can use to buy a few luxeries. |

From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | If the labour is paid, or contributes towards a reduced sentence, we will support this proposal. |

From | Liberal Democrats | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | If the labour contributes towards a reduced sentence (only for certain crimes eg. no rape) we're willing to support this proposal. |

From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | If we're going to be paying them a wage, perhaps we should charge them for their rooms and food? |

From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | THis isn't really slavery.... closer to indentured service. My point, which no one seems to be responding to, is that they are COSTING the goverment as is. They have no income, and are therefor not paying taxes, and yet are making use of government facilities that no one else uses. Therefor, any 'wages' they earn should be put toward paying for their food and maintenence of the prison. |

From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | That is slavery! they did not decide to be there and having them pay money for their stay will only influence them against the state! |
Date | not recorded |
From | Deadly Buzz Party | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | Which is why they should work and some of their wages go to the government. Having them working will provide a service and it will stop them from getting mind numbingly bored. |

From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | Oh, really. Does there really need to be a debate? Surely no one believes this newfangled 'rehabilitation' junk? Shoot them all. Publicly. Costs less in the long run, and you can charge for tickets! / Ignore my associate, who seems to be missing the point! It's not slave labor at all. They can repay their debt to society without incurring a /further/ debt. |

From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | Well. I don't think I would put it that bluntly Ril. And capital punishment has been outlawed. But nevertheless, your point is a good one. My collegue from the Ligati Party makes the point that they did not choose to be in prison. That is correct, they forfited their choice when they committed the crime. And the choise is really between making someone who has done wrong live on the government, or have him or her support his or herself |
Date | not recorded |
From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | I have to disagree with the Cult of Ril position, rehabilitation does work and is an efficient way to reduce bad simu and become a valueable member of society. In the Ligati opinion, work is a way to improve a person, but not if he or she is kept away from the fruits of her labor. Please remember that crimes often result from omissions of the government. |
Date | not recorded |
From | | To | Debating the Prison Reform Act | Message | This is an issue entirely outside of rehabilitation. That is not the issue. The issue is that thousands of criminals are being fed and sheltered in government facilities and are not paying taxes. Therefore, they should be forced to work in order to simultaniously pay back their existing debt to society and prevent a greater debt from being incurred. Shall we move to voting? |
