Message | In a recent poll of the Tukarali population, most people agreed that genetically modified crops should NOT be allowed (posted here: http://80.237.164.51/particracy/main/viewnews.php?nation=20). It is our job to not only protect the health of our citizens, but also to pass legislation that they want us to. That is what they elected us for. |

Message | Contrary to popular belief, genetically modified crops do not help to feed the poor. Suppose a company invested millions in reserach to create a vegetable which is 20% more productive. The farmers just have to buy a couple of seeds, and he can harvest the seeds a hundredfold, even selling them to neigbouring farmers, if the seeds haven't naturally been transferred there already (by wind/birds..) already . It's what economist call a public good. So, the company want to make money, and adapts the gene so it only grows 1 year, and they'll have to buy from them again each and every year. In any case, there's enough food on the world, it's only not properly deistributed. Why do you think so-called wine seas, milk lake, tomato mountain,.. are destroyed? Because there's too much. Besides that, there's the possibility of health risks. Years back, when pesticides, PCBs, asbestos became on the market nobody knew about health risks. We can't be too sure about what we're eating. |
