Bill: National Heritage Act- Monarchy!
Details
Submitted by[?]: Radical Nationalist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2442
Description[?]:
Lodamun had a long tradition of a Monarchy, this was destroyed by the URP because they see more power for themselves. The Monarchy brought in much tourism for the nation where as a president does not it is just a drain on our money. We call on all parties to defend tradition and re-instate the Monarchy back into the United Kingdoms of Lodamun! |

Message | How does the URP seek more power for itself? This bill is a power grab by FL/NP it will entrentch the current FL HoS indefinitely. |

Message | Gen. Teddington did not seek this position; the people of Lodamun clamored for him, which is evident by the landslide in the last election. In fact, this would be removing power from FL's hands as Ted's position would become only symbolic. Free Lodamun did not propose this, we were not even one of the first parties to vote for it. Power like this is a burden and until the people of Lodamun choose someone else to bear it, it falls on Free Lodamun to do so. Perhaps if those who preceded us had been more gracious wielding the power entrusted to them, we would not be on the verge of becoming a monarchy again. OOC: assuming the game let's me, Good ol' Ted will be retiring once a suitable candidate for King is found. Hopefully I can switch him out with someone neutral. |

Message | Sadly, the republic has fallen. |

Message | We must change our position; a single person with such power should not be hereditary. This outweighs any cultural and diplomatic considerations. |

Message | This is merely eliminating a layer of bureaucracy. The position of King, while hereditary, is only ceremonial. Furthermore, FL has every intention of installing a neutral person as monarch, unaffiliated with any party. We would even entertain suggestions from other parties as to who should become the ceremonial "ruler" of Lodamun. This act's purpose is to respect Lodamun's history (the vast majority of which was spent as a monarchy) while keeping in mind the inalienable right of the people to governm themselves. |

Message | OOC: The wiki article for Lodamun includes virtually no history, so I have no idea how long Lodamun was a monarchy for and why. If someone could fill me in that would be much appreciated. |

Message | FL: "This act's purpose is to respect Lodamun's history (the vast majority of which was spent as a monarchy)" Lodamun was a monarchy for only 38 years. Please get your facts right. |

Message | ooc, LARP: yeah we were working on it and got kind of bored. feel free to start a discussion about things you'd like to add. The facts are, Lodamun was a conglomeration of kingdoms from 3000 BC with the founding of Andaala (modern Andalay), this was the kingdom that through war, intermarriage, and negotiation took over the other 4. It remained a Kingdom until 800 CE and the end of the Lodamese Empire. That's 4000 years of history. Of course, this isn't conveniant for the urp you it is denied. http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/History_of_Seleya OOC: this is poorly written and needs redone, but this history of seleya predates every party here. Its as much fact as anything in this game. |

Message | This conveniently is RP fluff. The truth is that Lodamun always functioned as a republic. If your rationale for supporting a monarchy is a sentence or two in the seleya wiki, I'm afraid that argument is very weak when compared to the hundreds of years of uninterupted republican rule in the modern era. |

Message | hundreds of years that, for the most part, none of us were around for. Call it what you want, this is our history. Without roleplaying we may as well get rid of threads altogether and email eachother a spreadsheet to keep track of laws. |

Message | If none of us were around that's one thing, but don't pretend we were a monarchy during that time when we clearly weren't. |
