Message | Whatever happened to fiscal discipline? CCU completely opposes this outrageous increase in government spending. If this passes it will inevitably lead to greater centralization of power (which we oppose) and a larger bureaucracy (which we also oppose). If this passes, it will bring an end to Jelbanian government's long tradition of fiscal responsibility. This is a sad and dangerous time for our great nation. |

Message | Are the CCU pretending to be thick? Do they not recall their support for a free health service, massive recycling projects etc etc These sort of projects have to have funding, the current gvernment spending is a joke. If anything, th current government is taking us into a system of fiscal responsibility by actually finding the projects we are supposed to be funding. Note, currently the Jelbanian federal government funds the following *A military with nuclear capabilities, on a budget of 0.2% of the GNP * A public health care system, providing a free service to all Jelbanians, on a budget of 0.4% of the GNP * Paying for defendents from low income groups *Providing education and wages from criminals in prison, this and the above on a Justice budget of 0.3% * We fully subsidize higher education for all *We maintain free nursuries for all *We maintain a free public education system *We provide local governments with funding for libraries and museums *We protect National Cultural and Historic Sites and Monuments, all of the above five on an education budget of 0.8% of total GNP. *We have a space agency *We fund facilities for public recycling *We subsidize certain agricultural crops *We give moderate aid to countries in need *We give aid to all refugees *We provide subsidies for research and generation of renewable energy *We gaurentee child benefit to those who are low income or poor. *we provide a basic subsitsence income to all adults who need it not to mention the various regulatory bodies that the central government enforces, which of course cost money. This budget raises government spending to 8.8% of the GNP, from 5.2%, both pathetically low amounts. As said earlier, this Budget does not destroy our "tradition of fiscal responsibility", in fact it is far more responsible than the current budget, and still honours our governments long "tradition of underfunding government services". What is the use of providing a free health service if you never hope to provide the funding? Same for education, the military etc etc ooc: CCU our current spending is a mere 5% of the nations GNP. For most Western European nations this figure is at the very minimum 40%, even in the USA it is over 20% of the total GNP. |
