Bill: The National Anthem - The Fair Hills

Details

Submitted by[?]: Royal Conservative Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2095

Description[?]:

Oh Lodamun, oh Lodamun!

In times gone past we looked to thee
For comfort in darkest night
In turmoil great and long
You were our saviour, our light
And should these days come again
We know where we should look
Back to Lodamun, our mother
And we shall not take fright

Oh Lodamun, oh Lodamun!

The waves doth crash on white shores
The hills doth sing with the wind
And we rejoice to hear those sounds
Dance through our morning air
We joy to hear the bird song
For they are the sounds of life
Beating through the heart
Of Lodamun, oh Lodamun

(To be sang to Sir Edward Elgar's Jerusalem, see this link to hear it http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/mod/rulebritannia.html#Jerusalem)

MessageWell written (if you wrote the whole thing), but we still will not support this, we do not see Lodamun as having a single identity, it is more a composite of many diverse regional identities.

Message((As Jerusalem was the school song at my school I am psychologically compelled to reject this and anything resembling it.))

We oppose. Nothing against the song apart from it being too old fashioned in style, just we do not believe that a national anthem is relevant to our nation.

MessageA national anthem not relevant to a nation? What do we use at sporting events, ceremonies, celebrations and other civic occasions? I feel a national anthem is necessary for use on such occasions. It also acts as a unifying force between the many distinct cultures of our nation. In RL, Scotland, Walkes and England all share "God Save the Queen" as a national anthem and so , despite many cultural differences, it unites them under one banner.

MessageI do like the anthem, and if its sole function is to be sung at international sporting events, then OK. But the Greens must oppose any attempt to create a unifying anthem for civic occasions for much the same reason as some of the other parties. If there must be a civil anthem, let it rotate among songs from each of our states.

Random fact: Don't put "the" as the first word in your party name, because when parties are referred to in news reports, their names are preceded with "the", e.g. the [Socialist Party] has lost.
