Bill: Support Copyleft

Details

Submitted by[?]: Progressive Marxist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2096

Description[?]:

All technologies and software should be opened up to any individual and their enterpreneurial ideas. Under the current system, books are given only to one company and movie rights are restricted to that company and anyone willing to buy the property for a large sum of money, thereby cutting out new and creative filmmakers.

As for incentive arguments, the open-source community is a great example of how these individuals can work together to create something great. The fact that all software is on the commons in this nation is a further example of why this should be supported. Why should artworks and hardware be protected?

MessageIt creates incentive for people to create them. If their stuff is not protected, people will be less likely to develop whatever it is.

MessageLKook at the openp-source community. Look at the Libre community. Currently, algorithms, formulae and software are not patented and they are growing fine.

MessageTo all Capitalist out there,

Copyrights are a distortion of the free market. Why should company A block all production the Penton III and set prices at their whims when Company B could create a debugged cheaper and more durable version? Such barriers prevent the growth of technology here in the Telamon Commonwealth. This will not cut out profit as the company which can provide the cheapest and most reliable product will ultimately succeed.
