Bill: Education and Adulthood Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: 2ème PPPP

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2445

Description[?]:

The age at which a person is considered an adult and the age at which their education stops being compulsory should be consistent.

The PPPP prefers that the age for compulsory education is raised to 18 to solve this problem, however compromising and setting both ages at 17 might also be worth considering.

MessageOur youth should get as much education as possible, and besides, science shows that the adult brain isn't even fully developed until age 25.

MessageA similar proposal was put forward recently, there was a lengthy discussion. We feel the government should only mandate an adequate level of formal education, keeping all young people in schools past a certain point can be counter-productive as the ones who dont want to be their can be both a disruptive influence on and drain resources away from those who do want to be there.

MessageAs we have previously argued education is only educating when it is self directed and done in a cooperative environment. Pedantic teachers telling students to do mindless assignments, is just a matter of deadening senses for those destined to work in the "great satanic mills"

MessageWe are inclined to agree with the AO, without the satanic mills part. We find schools to be homophobic centres of hetrosexuality which should be outlawed, in favour of more sensible establishments such as fashion and hairdressing colleges.

MessageOOC: Is everyone on here against education? What the hell is the matter with you all?

AO: Have you read the goddamn "Education" section of the current laws? "Standardised testing is secondary to student creativity." I fail to see where that says "Pendactic teachers telling students to do mindless assignments ...".

Student creativity is fostered by cooperative learning, as well as individual learning. Teachers have the discretion to use either; and there are good and bad teachers. Because MTV tells you high school is a "waste of time" doesn't actually make it so.

Another two years of emphasizing creativity over testing is a good thing. Allowing students leave schooling when they are 16 is not. Have you ever met a 16 yr old? ... they need to be in school for ALL of our sakes.
