MessageThe issue is not so much the prayers, but the "leading" of prayers by teachers. Prayers can have a place in schools, but only if the student independatly chooses to make a prayer, to their god/religon. If teachers lead prayers, it gives authority and adds pressure to students to join the prayer.

Messagehis parents may wish him or her to pray, but religon is an individual choice, and the student whould be free to chose, even within a religous instituion.

MessageThe parents are free to choose a religious school or a secular one. And then OP is right with its statement.
