Message | Funny, that 'are encouraged'-phrase... I can't help imagining some biggoty government official standing next to the teacher and whispering in his/her ear: "Go on, say a prayer, you can do it, come on... that's it, very good..." In fact, it's so funny I'm almost tempted to vote yes... almost. |

Message | Im sorry, but prayer in itself, whether to a particular God, is very good for people. And I am fed up with athiest's who asssume that just because prayer exists, it is qual to showing it down people's throats. I went to school where prayer was regularly, yet very few children were religious at all. Prayer is about giving children teh option to be open to religion, rather than Athiests shutting the door and saying "I know everything because I read science books". |

Message | True. But prayer, in whatever form and to whatever god, is a personal thing, something you do when you feel the need to, not when some teacher tells you. |

Message | And for many people they need it to be introduced to them for them to have a choice, and school is the only place that can be done. |

Message | I beg to differ: like I said, religion is a personal thing and should therefor be left to the discretion of the parents or the family. School should be a secular, plural environment, based on empiric knowledge. |

Message | No, many families are biased towards their own beliefs, and athiest families are simply not prepared to even introduce to their children to the idea that god 'might' exist, and give them a choice. I never said anything about teaching religion people, but introducing religion to children. |

Message | I have no problem with religion being introduced to children, but then only in a scolar way: just pointing it exists, explaining what it is, clarifying there are several religions, etc... but a onesided, christian prayer led by the teacher is not our idea of introducing religion. Besides, I don't see religious parents introducing to their children the idea that god 'might not' exist either. |
Date | 13:11:52, August 24, 2007 CET | From | Conservative Nationalist Party | To | Debating the Education (Prayer) Act |
Message | Not true, there are many priests who have athiest children. In England theres a good athiest comdian who specialises in athiest jokes who has a father for a priest. And his father actively encourages him in his comdic role. |
Date | 13:19:51, August 24, 2007 CET | From | Cosa Nostra | To | Debating the Education (Prayer) Act |
Message | Exactly. Children of convinced and resctritive religious parents tend to 'move away' from religion, just as children of convinced and restrictive atheists tend to move towards religion. It only proves that every individual has the need or even urge to seek his or her own Truth (relation with god). |
