Bill: Banning Smoking in All Public Places

Details

Submitted by[?]: Labour Party of Solentia

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2448

Description[?]:

I wish to pass the motion that smoking is banned in all public places. If this bill is passed then smoking will not be allowed in any public place within our nation. Smoking would only be permitted in outdoor areas and in private properties. Any public place such as shops and restaurants would see a smoking ban.

MessageI feel for far too long, the health of our nation has been disrupted by smoking. Whilst the Labour Party has no problems with the people of our nation smoking if they really wish too, we see no need for them to do so in public places where people who don't wish to smoke should be infected with cigarette smoke which is horrifically bad for their health and well being. Our message and our bill- Smoke if you wish but on private property and outdoor areas only. All public places should see a smoking ban.

MessageHow would this legislation be enforced? What protocols would be in place to ensure the following of this bill?

MessageThe main feature would be fines (large fines) if someone was smoking in a public place and possibly would also be added onto the persons criminal record. The government may also add some more features to the bill to ensure it was enforced and followed correctly and properly. Schemes of this nature in other countries seems to have worked well.

I really do feel though that the Health Secretary must contribute to this debate so we can get a government view on this debate.

MessageI agree. The UPD will not be making our final decision on this issue until the health secretary's view has been expressed.

Message((OOC: Where did all these newbies come from? They just popped out of nowhere! I hate it when they do that...it's like suffering from withdrawal (not that I'm saying I've experienced it), you need to take things slowly and easy and when they come rushing in and proposing a barrage of bills it's too much to take.

Never-the-less, welcome aboard new parties. Be bi-partisan, politically correct, sway yourselves away from using fowl language, and don't become friends with Matt Unger. Oh yes, try and RP a lot more in-depth. Most parties that are cool like the CPS, LPS, and the IP have their politicians speak IC for them so it seperates anything that may be stated OOC. Attempt this if you're a more dedicated player or don't try if this is a test-drive sort of relationship with the game.))

Message((OOC: Oh yeah, since this bill doesn't have any bill proposals, if passed it won't really do anything. If it's a legislative resolution that will be binding law once passed it needs to be set up more properly.))

Random fact: The influence a bill has on elections decreases over time, until it eventually is no longer relevant. This can explain shifts in your party's position to the electorate and your visibility.

Random quote: "Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates." - Gore Vidal
