From | Labour Party of Solentia | To | Debating the The Creation of a New Government Department- Families and Local Government | Message | The Labour Party feels more emphasis is needed to be placed upon families, local government and communities. There are many policies being put forward for these different groups, but is it really being managed all that well? The Labour Party welcomes the work done by FIP, Conservatives and Liberals in these areas but feels adding a Government Department to manage it would be most helpful. Other parties, please add to the debate. |

From | New Centre and Unionists | To | Debating the The Creation of a New Government Department- Families and Local Government | Message | Though this would incorporate a highly interesting development for the government, we must ask, would it be progressive? To be more detailed; We ask whether what the Labour Party is suggesting here, already comes under the jurisdiction of Internal Affairs or Health and Social Work?
Surely it is the purpose of the Health and Social department to deal with Family issues, and the local government would fall under the Domestic/home/Internal office?
We would not wish to aid the implimentation of a policy that would lead to the further breakdown of an already complicated system of government. Breaking down the government into smaller departments could risk doing damage to the fluidity at which we communicate with each of the departments, and could choke the country in beaurocracy.
Though the UPD is suggesting a "Department of Clergy and Papacy" we feel that this is an area which has not been covered, wheras I am uncertain whether these issues (family and local government) have also.
What would the Labor Party say to our concerns? Do you agree? |

From | Labour Party of Solentia | To | Debating the The Creation of a New Government Department- Families and Local Government | Message | The Labour Party would say in response to the UDP, that whilst we already realise these issues are already being covered within other Government Departments, concentrating purely on two incredibly important if not vital areas of politics- Families and Local Government/Communities in their own department would be much better. We don't see how this would cause a breakdown of government as it wouldn't wither or dumb down these important issues- it would place them at the centre of politics- where these issues deserve to be. It would give the chance for a Minister to concentrate purely on two imprtant areas of policy, and for one minister to have these two areas of polciies at the heart of the agenda rather than muddled within the Interior or Health portfolios which has always seemed ridiculous to our Party, will ensure that these two areas- Local Government and Families are put back in the spotlight. |

From | New Centre and Unionists | To | Debating the The Creation of a New Government Department- Families and Local Government | Message | but surley you concede that the more departments there are, the more sluggish the system becomes, and if these topics are already being covered, where is the logic in dividing them again and creating a slower system?
We realise the vitality of these issues Senator, what we ask, is that we think long and hard before we issue them their own department. The division of Health from Social care, might be a step in the right direction for example, without hihglighting issues and granting them their own department. For example; I could just as easily say that Life issues (Abortion, euthanasia, cloning etc..) are "important and vital", do they ened their own department? |

From | Labour Party of Solentia | To | Debating the The Creation of a New Government Department- Families and Local Government | Message | The more departments there are- surly the more work being done to tackle and work on these issues in hand. Plus the topics and issues are being covered but not to the detail that these issues deserve. Our party is a party which supports families, local government and communities and the more work and emphasis being placwed on these issues the better and the more work being done. You are right UPD in saying these issues are being tackled currently but do you really think the Health secretary will be able to work with families and local government when she has to run the National Health Services as well? The Labour Party Doesn't. Families and Communities should get a large priority of the governments time and money- currently they are not getting that and therefore a Ministry for these areas is needed most certainly. And the examples you are given can be managed within the protfolios they have been designated to. Families and Local Government cannot be managed within the Portfolio it is in. Abortion and Euthanasia (and the other example) are issues which affect a fraction of the population- Families and Local Government affects every single member of this country. |

From | Workers Party | To | Debating the The Creation of a New Government Department- Families and Local Government | Message | We feel that there is no need for the Federal Government having a department to deal with local government issues - we trust that the local government will do fine without Federal intervention. As to the family issues, we believe they belong in the Health and Care ministry.
