Bill: Inhumane weapons act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal Party for Equality
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2096
Description[?]:
We must set an example to the nations of the world and renounce the use of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. Such weapons not only cause mass civilian death, but contamination of the environment and pointless rather than strategic destruction. As a pacifist nation in what is a relatively peaceful world we do not need these weapons to protect ourselves, and maintaining them not only puts across a menacing attitude to the international community but costs large amounts of money that could be better spent in raising the living standards for our people. There are many situations in which war can be considered ethical, but in my opinion none in which the use of these weapons can be considered ethical, even in defense. If indeed we do not intend to use them, it is hypocritical and pointless to maintain them, and it is for this reason that I propose disarmament. |

Message | We simply cannot do this and expect to remain sovereign. The New Endralonians not only have their targets on their formerly repressed peoples, but us, their ally, as well. They recently passed weapons regulations allowing them the use of both nuclear and chem/bio weapons. I'm willing to compromise on chem and bios, but we simply need nuclear weapons to ensure our safety. |

Message | If we are their allies, why would they attack us rather than some who are not? I repeat what I have said, Nuclear weapons are so destructive that their use is to be considered unethical in all circumstances. By all means beef up our military, but no weapons of mass destruction. |

Message | Trying to fight against a country that posesses nuclear and chemical weaponry with purely conventional weaponry is like trying to fight firearms with swords. We recognize the demerits of such weapons, but we cannot stress enough that the only way to effectively fight a nation that has nuclear weapons is with nuclear weapons of our own. We must not pass this bill, lest we be destroyed. |
