Message | Any thoughts? Should it be changed to something more American (baseball/basketball), or keep it as an European sport (cricket/rugby)? |

Message | GOOOAAAL! On the other hand, is this really any of the government's business? |

Message | The recognition of a sport as a national hobby IS important government business. By doing so, we can appropriately provide grants for amateur and professional leagues to develop our people's national identity and physical fitness. That stated, rather than football/soccer, which my constituents despise, I suggest Olympic sport fencing. |

Message | Olympic fencing? The sport of the idle rich, and a reflection of a long-outdated feudal culture. We continue to stand for football, the sport of the people. |

Message | While fencing is a quite respectable sport, the vast majority of the populace would find it inaccessible and would not find it a suitable national sport. |

Message | Fencing, if brought into greater focus by this bill, would benefit from the same economies of scale as football does, enabling the equipment to be more readily available at a cheaper price. Moreover, it is arguably more available to the people, as it can be learnt as an art independant of any single physical attribute -- attributes that are needed in concert to perform well in football -- a successful fencer can be slow, but skilled, or be immobile due to a disability of the legs, but learn excellent defense due to it. Thus, people of all ages and kinds can learn to enjoy it, moreso than football. |

Message | It seems to the Council that a national sport should be a team sport, to encourage adoption of nationwide identification and brotherhood. Fencing has always appeared as an independent sport, and therefore would possibly be ineffective in serving the purpose of a national sport. |

Message | You've never heard of fencing TEAMS before? While most fencing matches are fought one to one, teams fight together in tournaments, to bring victory as a whole unit, not as a single man or woman. Additionally, due to the nature of human physiology, this sport does not favour men over women, as many others sports, such as football, do. We should be careful not to offend half of our nation by choosing a sport that is biased against them. Such discrimination should be made a thing of the past. |

Message | Of course fencing teams have been heard of, but as you said most matches are fought one to one and it is this individual image that is most well-known to the populace. However, the comments regarding gender bias do tempt the Council to cast its votes in favor of this bill, as fencing would indeed help the spread of national identity if it is more accessible to both sexes. If it could be shown that fencing would be more accessible to the nation as a whole than football - that is, that its gender accessibility overrules its perceived general inaccessibility - the Council would support its adoption as the national sport. |

Message | Ah, you make my point for me. Its 'general inaccessibility' IS merely a perception, as you stated. Declaring it the national sport will give a significant boost in prestige, for instance, which will make people who would otherwise be indecisive about it, decide to look into it. As more people look into it, natural forces of supply and demand will cause accessibility to only grow even further. |

Message | Good enough. The Council supports the adoption of fencing as the national sport. |

Message | The Shylock Party thanks the Amystian Council for its well-reasoned support. |
