Message | The cabinet has been modified based on previous debate. There was a common complaint that parties weren't represented based on what the electorate made official regarding a majority and minority. Well, there are new parties here so let me have the honor of explaining the official Solentian system that has been tradition since 2393. The Supreme President selects his cabinet based on his beliefs as to who he can work with well. It is not based at all on the amount of seats a party has - to do so in our beliefs is the tyranny of the majority in an oppressive government brought against the minority. It is anti-common sense to base a government off the makeup of parties by their amount of seats. Just because a party has seats doesn't mean it is qualified in experience. This is something that has been proven again and again over the years. As an older party, we have witnessed major blunders by inexperienced entities attempting to run a difficult government. We don't wish to see this happen again. The long tradition of the Supreme President selecting his cabinet was started over fifty years ago by Supreme President Father George Bailen, Solentia's first Supreme President as well as the first democratic executive to run the nation after centuries of anti-democratic parties holding power. This tradition has been respected and upkept by every executive since and by most parties, with the exception of a government shut down in the 30s. It has worked nearly flawlessly and that is the way we plan on keeping it so long we are in the government. It is the duty of parties to respect the Supreme President's decision unless they think that the cabinet selection can ultimately destroy Solentia. We have almost always supported a cabinet on nearly every instance because we believe in respecting the intelligence of the people by allowing the Supreme President they elected to make his or her own choices. The Liberal Party was included based off of several integral reasons. Mainly, because they hold the experience and knowledge to work with the Solentian government. Secondly, Supreme President Andronicus has a record of being able to work efficiently and effectively with Liberal Senators and party leaders. This is crucial, probably the most essential factor in determining who is included in the cabinet and who isn't. If the Supreme President doesn't feel that he can work with a specific party, how is he supposed to run the nation as the people expected him to? Legislatively this is different. Parties must learn to work with each other. But executively, in a small body formed of people that will be working closely with the Supreme President, there cannot be bicker and partisan fierocity. It is anything but unacceptable to have the Supreme President struggling with Ministers in his cabinet. The Ryanist Party was included based off their longer experience in Solentia. Also, as a move to help unite this nation and wipe away any former resentments shared by our two parties, Supreme President Andronicus has selected two Ryanist Ministers. This is the beginning of a new bi-partisan era and the best way to start it is by eliminating any deep hatreds or partisan politics with rival parties. The Independent Party is another veteran party that Mr. Andronicus has a strong record of being able to work with. Their politics have an experienced edge to them that allows the cabinet to hear a third and smaller party voice. The Workers Party was included in a part of the cabinet to allow them a seat in the higher executive part of the government and gain the experience needed to run the nation. However, they dismissed this gracious attempt by Supreme President Andronicus to include them and now the final result is their party being excluded. If they do not wish to hold a seat in Mr. Andronicus' cabinet, that is their choice. We wish to work with all parties. However, this is the Supreme President's cabinet selection and we as a party support his move. If there are any further questions, Federal Independent Senators will most likely be glad to answer them. Thank you. FIP Majority Leader Peter Quincy |
