Bill: Keeping Our Fingers Out Of Sour Pies Part 4

Details

Submitted by[?]: Ma'avak

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2453

Description[?]:

"Whilst we originally supported the implementation of the Treaty of Friendship and Prosperity it has now been nearly 100 years and little has come of it. It was brought in soon after the collapse of the Hobrazian fascist regime in Darnussia and was an attempt to see the geographical region of northern Majatra and southern Artania united in peace and stability.

Yet the only two ratifying nations at any stage were Darnussia and Beiteynu. While this had advantages in cementing the special relationship we now have with our northern neighbours it was clear that the initial idea of the treaty was never realised. With the recent and sudden withdrawel of Darnussia from this treaty we are left as the only ratifying nation which whilst it does us no harm leaves us looking foolish and in support of a dream that can never be.

Furthermore we have in recent years become disillusioned with the free trade ideals proposed in this treaty and do not want to have to sacrifice the secure national borders we are building up should another nation, perhaps even the anti-semitic Zogist Beluzia or the historically anti-Beiteynu Hobrazia, decide to join up.

And so it is not with a flourish of streamers and shouting that we propose this bill but rather a heavy heart and a sense of mourning for what we amongst others could finally bring peace to this troubled corner of Terra."

-- Yair Moshe Berkovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Message"It is indeed sad that this attempt to establish a good and lasting peace has failed. While we would support any attempt at a revival of this treaty, for now we will support our withdrawal."
