Message | But the term Archon is a very republican one. It was used in the old Greek city-states as the title of the head of state, usually replacing the king. The founders of the Federated Cities of Pan-Sekowo adopted the titles of Basileus and Archon as a compromise between the monarchic and republican factions in Sekowo at the time. |

Message | We are a Federation, not a Republic. We can no longer allow ourselves to be held back by ancient traditions and compromises that have no use in the modern world. |

Message | Ok, we are a federation, I just wanted to say that Archon has absolutely no connection with monarchy. OOC: And besides, Archon sounds much cooler and less plain than Chancellor. And what's wrong if it's a bit more archaic? It is also used in many SF books and movies. |

Message | A Federation can be a Republic! These terms aren't mutually exclusive; someone confused some other political terms just recently, and it surprisingly confused everyone. A Republic means that we don't have a royal HoS, and it often implies representative government (but not in all cases; the term has been corrupted by time). Archon fits perfectly into this system. Here are some other combinations you might find strange: -A Communist Empire -An Autocratic Federation -An Aristocratic Republic Let's all review our terminology to avoid future confusion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Forms_of_Government |
