MessageFor the fire service, the police service and the health service, a minimal standard is simply not an option because these services must be kept running at full efficiency. If they are not, then lifes will be needlessly put at risk and for what? The selfish demands of a few greedy strikers

MessageYou might take "Unionist" out of your name, CUP.

I'll allow a modification of my bill to include on the health and law enforcement services, but I will never support this one.

MessageUnionist does not stand for Trade Unions but the union of states (in RL, this irefers to Northern Ireland staying part of Great Britain).

MessageStrikes are the only weapons "greedy" workers have to battle their employers large arsenals, so we oppose this.

MessageWhat advantage does joining a union give if the union may not act TiC.

We oppose on the basis of the description. It is not the place of a tribunal to decide the remuneration of any service. It is an item to be negotiated between the employer and employee.

Where there is a monopoly on employment and service of a type, then strikes have to be allowed as there is no alternative form of protest available. Thus we also oppose making police and fire service strikes illegal.

MessageClause four should be replaced. The first step in a labour dispute is collective bargaining in which both sides make a good-faith effort to come to an agreement. Only if no agreement is possible should the matter go to binding arbitration.

MessageWhat about the cleaners employed by the fire service? Can they strike? What about the chap who runs the teashop at the hospital, can he strike? What about the woman who washes police cars, can she strike?

MessageWe had thought that indenture was no longer legal. What this bill is doing is indenturing anyone who chooses to enter any of the emergency services.

Voluntary slavery is still slavery. We oppose.

MessageRubbish, utter and complete rubbish. Slaves aren't paid. Slaves don't have the opportuntity to leave their jobs. Slaves are not given the opportunity to take their wage claim to court.

Lives are put at risk by the emergency services striking. What if someone has a heart attack during a doctor's strike? It is not fair that people should be put in mortal danger because a group of employees want more money.

Random fact: "OOC", "IC" and "IG" are commonly-used acronyms in Particracy. "OOC" refers to comments, discussions and actions which are out-of-character, meaning they are done player-to-player rather than party-to-party. "IC" refers to in-character interactions (ie. party-to-party). Similarly, "IG" means in-game, although this term may also simply refer to what happens in the actual game interface, as opposed to on the forum or elsewhere. "RP" just means "role-play".
