MessageI will restate my view in case others haven't read the previous topic.

"Wilayah" is a term used for regions in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and I feel that for as long as we are keeping with the theme of Gerajan religion, Maharajas and otherwise South Asian influence for Malivia, I prefer that we keep an appropriate name for our provinces.

MessageThe MNP agrres fully. It is time we distence our selves from these outdated names. New names for a new Malivia!

In this thread, MRF, I pointed out that Wilayah is a term used specifically to quote, "The term Wilayah has usages in more than Malaysia as well. It is used in, to list a few, Afghanistan, Tajikistan Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Furthermore, the word vilayet is the Turkish pronunciation of the Arabic word"

What does Wilayah mean? Webster says, "domain1 [dəˈmein] noun
an old word for the lands which belong to a person" and also "the land under the control of a ruler or state
Example: British territory."

You say you want to "stick to the theme of the Gerajan Religion" when in fact, there is no such religion in existence in the real-world. If you mean what you see on our Wiki which is so antiquated it's absurd than say as much.

MessageListen; I don't think I'm being obtuse. I would like to stick to a common theme for all of our institutions; from what I have seen, that theme has generally been that of South/Southeast Asia. I understand that neither Geraja nor much else about Malivia is "real", but rather it is INSPIRED by the culture of South Asia, as it should be, since we are playing a game in which are featured fictional countries.

I have gathered the impression that Malivia is inspired by South Asian culture based on the discussions contained in the bills labeled "OOC: Malivia facts and info", "OOC: Geraja" and "OOC: Malivian ethnicity" and the fact that the contents of those threads are reflected in the current makeup of Malivia; namely, the institutions of Maharaja and Ouparath, the Wilayah and the name of "Gerajan Republic". I have read the Wiki and it seems to also reflect that information.

I don't understand what you mean by "antiquated". Role-playing games are an exercise in storytelling: the people that have played in Malivia in the past have told a story and that is what we are left with. It's, in a way, the history of Malivia. If you want to further that story and contribute new ideas - for example, by changing the names of institutions - that is fine by me, in fact it's wonderful; however, I would prefer that those changes be made in a spirit of continuity and for reasons that are justified in-character, not because you personally dislike the word "wilayah".

I am opposed to changing the name of the regions to "dominions", because since this has no basis in the role-played history (what I mean by "theme") it's detrimental to the purpose of the game - which is, without a doubt, to roleplay the government of a country over the course of time.

Have I been clear or should I elaborate yet more?

Thank you for agreeing with me.

I understand that there are some discussions about the culture therein. Parties come and go, half those who made Malivia are gone. Elections are held, continuity isn't always the rule of the day in a dynamic ever-changing world. Rome didn't remain purely Rome forever, you know? All I want to do, and tried to do in the debate-is to spur on creative discourse on these issues. We're active, times have changed and tell me why I shouldn't desire to see some things changed?

My god, I'm proposing such a minor change and your up in arms over it. It's called compromise, my friend. I tried to bring this to debate; why now protest? Vote No, let the people decide. Then, if it doesn't pass or does, bring it to debate. See how this works? Quite simple I'd say.

MessageI'm certainly not in arms about anything anymore than I was before; I'm just trying to be clear as there seemed to be some confusion. I see your point of view is "damn the torpedoes" - that's fine.
