Bill: Unit of Measurement Act of 2456

Details

Submitted by[?]: 帝国公明党 (Teikoku Kōmeitō)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2456

Description[?]:

The DSP, realizing that there is no one nationally recognized unit of measurement, seeks to introduce one to help unify our people and cut costs both in government and private industry by having a single measurement unit to be used for everything.

Therefore the DSP proposes that Metric be used as the national systems of measurement it's the most widely used in the whole of Sekowo.

MessageCeC would propose that the imperial system be phased out and completely replaced by the metric system no later than 2500.

MessageConsidering Imperial is used by a significant amount of Terra, and by roughly half the population of Sekowo, plans to phase out either should not be drawn up until such a time that one is used by 80%+ of the population.

OOC:
Ok, I really have no idea how many other nations have actually debated this, but since half the players seem to be North American and half European with some Australian mixed in as well that would mean roughly half the players use Metric, half use imperial and some use both.

MessageWhy don't we use our own unit system or some archaic one?

The Greek system is pretty cool:

Messagewho's to say what systems are used in Terra? Why legislate the assumed into law if it is already the default?

MessageOOC:
I doubt most people have actually thought about it to make bills about it, so we must assume by default that Metric and Imperial are used.

MessagePSFF believes in the simplicity of metric system. Imperial system is too old and confusing in order for our scientists to work efficiently with it.

Metric system is extremely easy to learn for our citizens, unlike Imperial. Two systems of measurement are just too confusing for our citizens and scientists.

MessageThe PRP supports the establishing of a single standard system of measurement, and the Metric system seems to be the clear preference given the extreme ease of use in industry, research, and life in general. It is not a difficult system to learn, and within ten years will be widely accepted by the vast majority of the nation.

MessageFine, after this bill goes through and fails or passes, both of which are still possible at the time, we'll create another establishing Metric as the primary one.
