Message | Please don't vote for this! It's thoroughly grammatically incorrect. The nominative (i.e. the subject) is "libertas," the accusative (object) is "libertatem." Since there is no verb, it makes no sense to make this in the accusative case. Furthermore, "libertas" is a feminine noun. You put the adjective "aeternum" in either the masuline or neuter gender. In summary, the proper motto would be "Libertas aeterna" The current motto is grammatically incorrect is several ways. It would shame our nation to adopt such a flawed slogan, especially one that aims (through the use of a dead language that most clearly don't understand) to sound elevated and lofty. |

Message | 1. It's not meant to be gramatically correct, since it's not traditional Latin. 2. Latin is one of our four official languages, so at the least a good sized minority speaks it. |
