Bill: Legalisation of All Drugs

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Socialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2098

Description[?]:

Currently people are only allowed to use naturally occuring drugs recreationally, but we feel this should be spread to all drugs, naturally occuring or not. If people wish to do this to thier body it is their decision, and many naturally occuring drugs are very harmful, so it wouldn't be putting people in much more danger than they are anyway. It is what the people want, and we feel that they should have the liberty to do so if they wish.

MessageWe feel its no more potentially dangerous than allowing people to use natural ones, and that it extends their civil liberties considerably. People should be allowed to do this if they want to, it's their body, their choice. Plus the drugs can be more easily regulated and tracked if they are no longer only available on the black market, making them safer than they were before, as you can be more sure of what you're getting. The drugs can now also be taxed, which they couldn't before, and means less has to be spent on anti drug policing, which increases revenue. It's also what the people want, and we think it would be an excellent idea.

MessageWe are against because the drugs can affect society too. Not just the user.

MessageWe strongly support this bill. Every individual's person is sovereign and every adult individual should be the sole arbiter of what he/she puts in his/her body.

Also, on a practical level, the effect of making drugs illegal is to exacerbate all their worst features - there are no controls over purity/safety, the criminalisation of users makes it is harder for addicts to get help, supply decreases so prices are artificially increased which increases crime (and hence the cost to society), police time is diverted away from actual crimes (i.e., those with a definite victim) to potential crimes (i.e., the alleged 'affect on society').

The Liberty Party strongly urges a YES vote to this bill
