Bill: Religious Freedom Position Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Pan-Sekowo Freedom Alliance
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2463
Description[?]:
Religious people are having their views restricted, especially by the political left, in a blatant show of hypocracy. Just because you don't like a view does not give you the right to restrict it. Worse than anything is the banning of individual evangelism, as many religions believe it MUST be done in order to obtain salvation. In the minds of many of our religious citizens, our current laws are condemning them to hell. How can we be so cruel? |

Message | There is a seperation of church and state and thusly the wearing of relgious things in government buildings is not permittable. Furthermore we can not allow evangelism of any sort, as the beliefs involved could be harmful. |

Message | The "seperation of church and state" defense dosn't hold up. The current law blocks not only public officials, but ANYONE from wearing a religious symbol in a school/police station etc. Its absurdly restrictive. So we allow hate speech in our media, but not someone to try and convince someone else that god exists? By dangerious, you seem to mean "soemthing my party doesn't agree with". |
Date | 08:06:55, September 30, 2007 CET | From | Plato's Republican Party | To | Debating the Religious Freedom Position Bill |
Message | Plato's Republicans feel that the separation of Church and State is important but agree that it should not restrict the freedoms of the general population. We should not have public officials make any display of religion one way or the other, but the current laws are too restrictive. We do not agree that there ought to be no laws, but should it be proposed that the only restrictions are on public officials during their work, we will agree. As for individual evangelism, is this not covered when a Church which believes strongly in it applies for government approval? Is it not covered by their (approved) right to "advertis[e] in any manner"? We feel that it is. |

Message | If this bill is blocked, the PSFVP will happily propose a more moderate form, where it will be proposed that 'proposed that the only restrictions are on public officials during their work". |

Message | public building refers to government buildings and public universities. The wearing of a cross necklace, Kabala bracelet and such is not prohibited. |

Message | Typo there. What I meant is that the wearing of a cross necklace, Kabala necklace etc., as long as it's not being made to be overtly obvious, is allowed in schools. |
