Bill: Likatonia Tax Relief Charter

Details

Submitted by[?]: People's Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2098

Description[?]:

We seek a society without the burden of heavy taxes, and the heavy hand of government. In keeping with those principles, we're seeking a broad tax reform, to ease the burden on Likatonian families across the nation.

Abolishing the Sales tax:

Whilst this proposal is a godsend for greedy governments, it's no doubt a regressive tax, the burden falling heaviest on those who consume the largest part of their income, and are least able to afford it. With it's removal we shall restore balance and some amount of justice to the tax system.

Abolishing the Luxury Tax:

Air-conditioning, cell-phones and other common goods were all once luxury products available to only a few. This brings out a fundamental truth about the economy, which is that as the volumes increase, costs tend to fall and the product will tend to go mass-market. Reducing the luxury tax will allow more people to afford such products as well as hasten the day that they become affordable for most people.

Reducing Corporate Taxes:

Corporations can grow only when they can invest, and can invest only what they make or can borrow and raise. These investments bring us jobs and prosperity, so we must welcome such things with open arms. Heavy taxes on corporations make it more difficult to raise the required funds, which means that certains investmens are postponed. With this in mind we have proposed to halve the corporate tax in order to boost investment and job creation all around.

MessageAs we currently have a surplus of 53,846,047,286 and this would reduce revenue by 44,896,130,508, it would still leave our economy with a reasonable surplus to accomodate emergencies. As we of the RLP are in favor of smaller government and allowing the people to dispose of thier income as they se fit, we are in support off this bill.

MessageWe would like to see the surplus in the budget put into reducing taxation for the poorest in our community.

Those earning between 452 and 904 LIK, pay a tax rate of 5%, contributing 709,406,500 LIK to the budget. This represents slightly over 1% of the surplus, and will hardly damage government income, we seek to have this reduced to zero%.

However if that is taken into consideration, we will definitly support this bill morally, because we have no MP's currently.

MessageUmmm...I checked to see if that was possible but it appears that there is no proposal to change income tax rates yet. Or atleast I couldn't find it.

If you do, do go ahead and I propose it. I would infact have taxes start at above the highest bracket that wouter has enabled.

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature.
