Bill: Protecting Our Nation's Future

Details

Submitted by[?]: Green Socialist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2468

Description[?]:

Recently a rash of overly-permissive bills, made in the spirit of being progressive, have allowed Kazulian youth to become overexposed to certain facets of adult life, without having the skills or experience to safely deal with them.

In particular, we believe that the lack of legal age limits on consuming alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, blatantly sets our children and young people up to the dangers of excessive drinking and drug use - which has far more dangerous physical consequences on younger bodies, as well as removing adult boundaries from which children can learn to safely consume (or avoid) such legal drugs.

Furthermore, we believe that the unrestricted diffusion of graphic sexual and violent content on TV throughout the day creates difficulties for children in understanding what is, in fact, proper and socially acceptable behaviour, as denying parents a chance to screen their children from being prematurely introduced to what they may consider to be excessively mature, inappropriate or even frightening television content.

By this, we mean anything covered from violent rape scenes in movies, scenes of violence and death on early news programs to sex scenes.

We believe that this bill, far from restricting the rights of our young, sets the proper and right balance between protecting our youth from adult nasties, and allowing them to grow up and explore the world at their own time and pace.

1. Just because people will still be able to find ways to do it illegally, doesn't mean we should allow things. Or do you want to legalize murder too? And it is not the kids that are punishable, but the people who let the kids do that to themselves.
2. Kids are a little underinformed, unfortunately. That's why they are not adults yet.

MessageIt's not the government's job to "protect" children from material it deems offensive. That is the parent's duty, and nobody else's.

MessageI would counter to the DPP that allowing minors unrestricted access to alcohol and tobacco is the responsibility of all society, and is in fact beyond the control of parents if the minor so decides to purchase them.

I encourage you to change your vote in the health interests of young Kazulians.

Random quote: As for rape, of course, that is a direct consequence of the capitalist system of oppression. Capitalism relies on fuelling division and resentment to sustain itself, and so it sets men against women, race against race and so on. Men rape women because they are being oppressed by capitalism, so they take it out on women. Under Communism, there will be no rape, because there will be a full and natural harmony and equality between the genders. ~ Friedrich Pfeiffer General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Party
