Bill: Sales Tax Reform Act, 2098
Details
Submitted by[?]: Alliance of Free Persons
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2099
Description[?]:
Currently, the tax on food and other essential items (such as clothing) are the same as the taxes on luxury items. Since the poorer citizens of our nation end up spending a larger percentage of their income on essentials, whereas the rich can afford to spend more of their income on other things, such as savings and investments, we propose to make the sales tax less regressive by eliminating the tax on food and raising the luxury taxes by 5%. The increased revenue from the luxury taxes will offset the lost revenue from the food tax. |
