Message | Although nuclear weapons seem inviting they are veyr abd ideas. The only point of them is to scare off attacking nations. The production of nuclear weapons costs enormous amounts, and has a negative effect on the environment. |

Message | The UPU would support a compromise proposal to have nuclear weapons, but use them for detrrence only (and abolish chemical weapons entirely). Sadly, we don't think a small country with socialist in its name can afford to give up nuclear arsenal entirely, not when the world is dominated by sinful capitalism and near-fascist states just dying to invade Kafuristan at the drop of a hat. |

Message | I see. The perhaps we keep the first proposal, and change the second to: The nation shall never purchase or store nuclear weaponry, but it reserves the right to research, and develop the technology. |
Date | 16:57:08, October 13, 2007 CET | From | Union of Progressive Ulama | To | Debating the Nuclear Bill |
Message | We feel we must have enough nuclear weapons in existence to deter attackers. But we should commit to never using them except to deter attacks. |

Message | The PSP is in two minds about this bill. We are ideologically opposed to weapons of mass destruction, but have come to accept that in Al'Badara's current situation some form of deterrent is necessary. We would therefore prefer a more middle of the road stance on nuclear weapons, as indeed we have attempted to legislate for in the past - legislation to outlaw any nuclear first strike, and to reduce chemical and biological weapons to research purposes only, for the event that they should be used against us. The Head of Government and Minister of Defence agree that we are forced to make a choice between our ideal situation of removing all WMD from Al'Badara and the practical security of the nation - and ultimately we cannot bring ourselves to gamble with the security of the nation. We will, however, propose alternative legislation with what will hopefully be a compromise solution. |

Message | Nuclear weapons for us will never be used, unless we have a(n) M.A.D. policy. As well, if we face an extremely hostile nation who attacks us first with, say a neutron bomb, what are we going to retaliate against, a shaking of the fist and a nasty letter to their leader? We don't believe in attacking first with WMDs due to the fact that it would destroy us on the diplomatic front but we do need them to tell our enemies to back off. |

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI). |
