Bill: EXPERIENCE Over Guessing Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kapitalist-Arbeitsfamilien Partei

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2472

Description[?]:

This bill reforms the way the Likatonia measures the educational standards of our children: it simply ENcourages WORK EXPERIENCE in the academic field of study in favor of students taking a 3 hour standardized exam.

However, it must be specifically noted that this bill does NOT prohibit the the requiring of students to pass exams in Math, Science, History, English, etc. but rather stipulates that if a student completes physical and actual experience in the workforce via an internship at company that specializes in the discipline that they wish to go into, that success is valued MORE b/c it is a more accurate model of whether students will be productive citizens of Likatonia rather than being a "Lucky guesser" on an exam since 25% of F Students ace the exams simply by....you guessed it.....GUESSING!!!

MessageWe have continuously opposed 'standardised testing' as an inaccurate measure. On this matter, though, we are somewhat divided. The current model favours creativity, the CWFP plans to introduce a policy whereby those who 'work in the field' will effectively be given preference.

The problem with that - of course - is that a lot of people 'working in a given field' actually SUCK at the job they are employed for.

So - exchange a measure based on raw talent... with one based on potentially worthless 'time served'?

We cannot support.

It is NOT worthless "time served" b/c if a person SUCKS at the job they are interning act, his/her supervisor will FAIL their performance rating in the the employer evaluation.

The reason that credible work experience is much more EFFECTIVE than simply "creativity" or tests is b/c it--in a way--is a "test" on APPLYING the academic knowledge of the course of study to that in the real world. For example, Person A who gets a A+ on the Math Regents' Exam but is unsuccessfully able to APPLY that knowledge in mathematics to a productive field in business, commerce, or some other math-related job whereas a student who scored a C+ on the same exam is able to secure a greater profit for the company and thus be more productive.

MessageWe wish it were as the CWFP imagines it is.

Unfortunately - the reality is that most people are somewhere between useless and tolerable, at doing the jobs they are actually employed for.

It's one of the reasons the AM SuDP favors a policy of aptitude testing and automatic placement of people according to REAL inclination and ability.

So - why rely on the 'score' given to the student by their mediocre employer?

It seems more logical to us to test for real ability, and make up the academic profile based on actual skills and aptitudes.
