Bill: Manifest Destiny
Details
Submitted by[?]: Likaton Coalition of the Willing
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2473
Description[?]:
We, the Loyal, resolve to step up in defence of Immeressence. The nation shall never purchase, produce, or store biological or chemical weaponry, for military purposes. We shall only develop defensive technologies, both for our troops, and civilians. Therefore, research and development of the technology is permitted, however the nation shall never use chemical or biological weaponry in warfare. Regardless of our stance on biochemical weaponry, we must retain a deterrent. To that end, the nation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in retaliation to any attack. We do however, trust and respect many of our neighbours. For the sake of liberty, from the passing of this Bill, all foreign marriages are recognised, regardless of domestic policy regarding marriage. All that we ask is that a formal blessing from the Church of Immeressen be obtained by the couple. Foreign investors may freely invest in national companies. We have no objection to this, however ultimately these properties remain those of the Likaton people, and may be returned to them at any time. The government gives high levels of aid to countries in need. We will send as many pamphlets about Immeressence as required, until those countries in need see the light. We cannot stand by and let them remain in darkness. The nation imposes no border controls on visitors, although anyone found in Likatonian territories without citizenship, or a letter from the Church, will be subject to detention, and possibly deportation. The State appoints the heads and other ministers of religions, through our Saviour First Advocate All Father Zhelezo Immeressen, Reborn. By His grace alone, we will prosper. There is an official state religion, the Church of Immeressence, and membership is mandatory. People are required to dress according to religious codes. All citizens should wear a token of their faith to the one and only true faith. You may have thought that this day would never come, however your life will depend on such tokens, for example the Morning Sun of Immeressen. The salaries and pensions of ministers of religion shall be borne by the State and regulated by the law. Religious doctrine determines the death penalty for the following offences. Any attack on a member of the Church of Immeressence. Any attack on a Convocation member. Any action designed to destabilise the Church, the State, or the Convocation. Being a Lodamunese terrorist, assassin or spy. Being Keymonese. |

Message | SPECIAL NOTE: I humbly ask to for the participants to please just give me CREATIVE LICENSE to use a "Real World" historical example in this argument!!! Dear Immeressen's Sword and Armour Party: Hello, to be perfectly honest, you sound EXACTLY like those fundamentalists ROMAN CATHOLICS that imposed their theocratic & dictatorial reign on the POOR European Surfs during the DARK AGES (Middle Ages)!!! Now, ask yourself as a student of history, what HAPPENED to the Catholic Church in 1517 b/c of them FORCING their religion on the people??? Cordially yours, Christian E. Savage, Minority Leader of the Capitalist Working Families Party |

Message | Articles 1, 2, 6 and 12 appeal to us immensely. Article 8 is a positive step, though could go further. All other Articles we find reprehensible. We will abstain until we have better made up our minds. |

Message | OOC: This is what you could have written... Convocation, I humbly ask to for the participants to please indulge me whilst I recount a popular Likaton fable. I'm sure many of you have heard it before. A long time ago, in beautiful Likatonia, there was a group of Holy men (and women) called the Order or the Holy Star. Although they started off wise, they quickly tried to make all of Likatonia a theocracy (that is, ruled over by the church). Before too long, the poor honest folk of Likaton, Western Meria, and even Lodamun were forced to bow before the Church. Now, ask yourself as a student of history, what HAPPENED to the Holy Star in 2255 b/c of them FORCING their religion on the people??? Cordially yours, Christian E. Savage, Minority Leader of the Capitalist Working Families Party Likatonia has a long history, within which many things have happened. If you wish to prosper, it may benefit you to study that history. |

Message | IC: I believe that we have heard stories of these 'Roaming Catheters' of which you speak, although obviously 1517 is during those early years, when writing was not invented and so no records survive. We use tales of them to amuse and frighten small children (Like the legend of the Spanish Inquisition, where people were tortured slowly, over a gentle heat, in the fashion of legendary chef Vladimir Spanish's famous omelette). Alas, all we really know about the Catheters is that they had a propensity for unpleasant probing, so I struggle to see the relevance. Immeressens Sword and Armour, Fairy Tale division. OOC: See what I did there? |

Message | We have decided on balance that we must go with this bill, with the view of turning over articles we find intolerable at a later date. |
