Bill: Public/Private Housing Guarantee

Details

Submitted by[?]: We Say So! Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2475

Description[?]:

In order to guarantee that all peoples requiring housing are able to gain property the Government will provide sponsored housing to low income families, the elderly (should they require such), and individuals who are unable to purchase properities by Private means.
Those peoples living within these homes will be required to pay a limited contribution toward upkeep through rent, but costs will be maintained to such a position as to keep them below the cost of Private Rental Accommodation.

Peoples will be allowed to continue to live in these houses until such time as they can either:
a) Afford to purchase said property outright (this money will then be used to construct new Public Housing);
b) Able to move to Private Rental Accommodation, without serious economic harm;
c) Able to purchase Private Accommodation.

Housing production will be split between three varieties:

- 1/4 of housing will be single bedroom "starter" homes,
- 1/2 of housing will be two bedroom small family homes,
- 1/4 of housing will be three bedroom large family homes.

Local Councils will be able to modify the above requirements to better provide for the requirements of their local constituents.

All other housing is permitted to be owned and maintained by the individual so long as said housing does not break local or national planning directives.

MessageThis legislation is a step in the right direction, but the Family First Party feels that it perhaps does not go far enough. We would like to see all housing privatized, and perhaps subsidized for people with low income for legitimate reasons. We do not see any nessicary reason for public housing at all, but this legislation is certainly an improvement and we support.

MessageWe understand the position of the FFP, and thank them for their support, however we would not support complete privatisation of the housing system as it would make it nigh on impossible for low income earners to afford housing and we will not subsidise private industry.

Random quote: "We must show that liberty is not merely one particular value but that it is the source and condition of most moral values. What a free society offers to the individual is much more than what he would be able to do if only he were free. We can therefore not fully appreciate the value of freedom until we know how a society of free men as a whole differs from one in which unfreedom prevails." - Friedrich August Hayek
