WHEREAS, the instutition of marriage is historically a religous institution, and WHEREAS, it is the stance of the Alliance of Free Persons that government has no place regulating or involving itself in religious instutitions, BE IT PROPOSED THAT the civl and religious aspects of marriage are hereby seperated. Individuals are free to seek out blessings of their relationships from the church of their choice, and that the government shall grant civil marriages, with all the legal benefits religious marriage currently enjoys to any two consenting adults. No part of this bill shall be construed to obligate any religious institution to officiate any union between individuals that the instutition does not approve of, nor may any insititution be prohibited by law from performing any marriage ceremony (or other ceremony of union) between any group of consenting individuals, but civil marriages shall only be granted to two consenting adults, as the laws of the Republic, as they today stand, do not accomidate marriages with more than two partners. |
