Message | The existence of child labor devalues adult labor, by opening up a large seciton of the population to employment. It thus decreases adult wages, requiring families to secure additional income by employing their children, preventing them from developing properly. What is at stake here is not a middle-class 12 year old who want a paper route, but an impovershed 12 year old who needs to sew soccer balls so his family can eat an extra few meals a week. |
