Bill: Severing Foreign Entanglements
Details
Submitted by[?]: Söhne der Freiheit
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2490
Description[?]:
"To unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples, " - from United Countries treaty These statements must be closely scrutinized. They are essentially putting the interests of the rest of the world over the interests of our own citizens (if it comes to that). While this may seem noble, we have a government to represent our people and not to coddle the rest of the world. If you do not believe we should cave in to international demands simply because it represents the majority of nations in a treaty which does not even encompass the majority of the nations in the world, then we shouldn't be a part of the treaty, and if you do, then you are disloyal to Likatonia. The Three Nation Territorial And Economic Alliance is essentially an agreement by three nations to stifle free trade and eliminate competition on the seas surrounding our nations. The Likatonian people pay dues to this international entity which does also utilizes our military. It is repugnant, it is a yoke. It must be thrown off. NATO binds us into developing the militaries of other nations. The only nation the Likatonian people can trust to defend them is Likatonia. Their funds should not go towards the aid in development of other nations' militaries. The Collective Security Council gives right of passage to all member nations regardless of circumstances and if we were to withdraw from it in an undefined "time of heightened tensions" we could have sanctions put against us. These are shackles, not bonds of friendship. A nation's people cannot be free if the nation signs itself away to a treaty they would be bound to honor against the people's interests. Commerce with all nations, alliance with none. |

Message | Actually - for the most part, these treaties do the exact opposite of that which the FRP seems to believe - or at least CLAIMS to believe. These treaties have a tendency to offer support to us if we need it, with little asked in return. We wonder what the REAL agenda is behind this... is the FRP yet ANOTHER Keymonese infiltrator? The AM SuDP is growing tired of this undeclared war... |

Message | We are genuinely worried - especially of late. There seems to have been a spate of these intrusions, one of which accidentally came out and openly admitted their foreign influence, and others that have just fled by night. It would certainly be in the interests of an outsider wanting to upset the internal balance of Likatonia, to start out by severing all ties with our long term allies and neighbours. |

Message | The AMSuDP's claims are completely unfounded and contrary to the spirit of a Republic. He is using terror to stifle political debate by shifting the focus to nonexistant foreign ties of the FRP. The FRP has always and will always be a Likatonian party, and we don't give a damn for Keymon if their interests are at odds with ours. |

Message | Nothing unfounded about it. Within moments of their resurgence in Likatonia, the FRP started a concerted effort of weakening international relationships. It's not about terror - it's about paranoia - we suspect the motives of the FRP. It's not about stifling debate, and we are not shifting the focus. We encourage debate - and it is the REAL motives of the FRP that we are interested in. We have had a number of Keymonese parties appearing in Likatonian guises. It is entirely possible - to our perception - that the FRP are just such a sleeper cell. FRP can claim what they like - we judge on actions, not on claims. |

Message | Just as the AMSuDP claimed to support individual rights and voted to keep the government's right to coerce citizens into serving in the "National Service". The Likatonian people will see through your lies and strategy of discreditation by terror. The FRP is simply promoting a return to core Likatonian values of individual freedom and nonintervention. |
Date | 06:13:20, November 22, 2007 CET | From | Permissive Social Union | To | Debating the Severing Foreign Entanglements |
Message | We would note that Likatonia has had far from an unbroken record in the arenas of 'individual freedom' and 'nonintervention'. Individual freedom is justifiable only in the collective of state interests. No state, no individuals. No individuals makes the ideal of freedom rather redundant. |
Date | 09:05:27, November 22, 2007 CET | From | Commonwealth Workers Army | To | Debating the Severing Foreign Entanglements |
Message | We are unsure what the FRP means... we do support individual rights... on a social level, as we have stated. We also support an interventionist approach to things like governmental areas of overlap, and to the financial/business areas of the economy - as we have stated. So - there is no conflict between what we have said, and how we have voted. If the FRP want to marry their own gender, the AM SuDP will always vote to support. If the FRP want to have orgies, divorce that requires nothing other than that the couple aren't in love, or the right to breastfeed in public, the AM SuDP will always vote to support. On the other hand, if the FRP wants to do something destructive, like unregulate tree-cutting, remove the regulations from our health and safety in industry acts, or disarm our military, we will always vote against such damaging ideas. There is no conflict - it is disingenuous of the FRP to pretend there is. We are not 'lying'. This is no 'discreditation by terror'. The FRP is no more about 'individual freedom and nonintervention' than the AM SuDP, except perhaps in areas where it harms Likatonia to be so. |
