Bill: Centrist Cabinet Proposal of August 2492

Details

Submitted by[?]: Centre Démocratique

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2493

Description[?]:

As the DLJ has become more left-wing (which is the reason we are no longer members) and CUF remains generally conservative, we are proposing this cabinet of parties that are generally part of the political center. We are also the largest three parties in the Assemblee. We hope to provide a moderate, common-sense, and inoffensive approach to government.

This was a difficult choice as we have good relations with and respect for all the parties of Jelbania. In the end, we thought it best to keep the cabinet limited to the fewest number of parties possible in order to provide cohesive governance.

MessageCentrist??? You call all the parties that oppose abortion, any sort of progressive taxation, laissez faire parties centrist? I think someone needs a reality check if this is called centrist. I am not saying that the D.L.J is centrist either but this is not centrist I can say that.

Message-We actually do support progressive taxation, we've never advocated for a flat tax or anything like that.
-We do oppose the taking of any life, whether that be through abortion, euthanasia, or the death penalty.
-And generally, we do like the government to stay out of the market.

We've never been ideologues of the right or left - that's why we consider ourselves centrist. If you disagree, then we'll have to agree to disagree.

We have good relationships with every party in this nation and we'd be happy to serve with any of them in a cabinet. As the CUF remains fairly right-wing and the parties of the Democratic League for Jelbania have made their platform more leftist, we thought we'd try a coalition of non-ideological, moderate parties.

We did not propose this to offend any party or sever any friendships we have. We just want to pursue a more moderate path. Politics is politics...and we can not please everyone. As we mentioned, we also sought to create a cabinet with a smaller number of parties so that those parties have more power within the cabinet.

MessageGo to a political compass site and vote the right way and you will see, you are not centrist. And therefore you can't brand that name of being centrist.

And politics is politics? What happened to you and the Lib. Equal Gov.? You were so happy to support the RCF for the presidency? What happened to your teamwork there? It might seem like to me that that alliance was more of an alliance of personal reason rather than building working alliances with parties. And look what's happening now you have left them out in the dust for the right side of the spectrum.

MessageWe appreciate CUF putting the interests of the country over their own political interests.

As to the PFP: We do not believe that an environmentalist, pacifist, anti-slavery, universal health-care supporting, death-penalty opposing, etc. party like ourselves would fit into the mold of a right-wing party. If you do, well then we disagree. And let's leave it at that.

We've already explained our reasons for proposing this specific cabinet. Again, we did not propose this to offend any party or sever any friendships we have. The Lib-Gov Party has been a great friend of ours for many years and they will continue to be. Please do not try to create a wedge between UCC and any party. If you recall Lib-Gov Party and UCC endorsed Jean-Louis Monteil of RCF for the presidency after a controversy involving the inappropriate actions of PFP President Pierre Descartes. Our two parties looked passed our own political interest and endorsed RCF to restore confidence and respect for the presidency. We'd rather not bring up those old issues. We've moved on from that.

Message*we'd also add pro-race integration, pro-gay civil unions, internationalist, anti nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons to list of issues in which we are not "right-wing"

MessageYou certainly are persistent aren't you. At the moment, we are not comfortable choosing either one.

On the matter of this cabinet - it certainly is an awkward time for the People's Party to become inactive!

MessageWhat's wrong with being persistent? What's wrong with wanting to know something?

Anyways if they do disband then of course I am sure there will be a call for election I presume?

MessageWe think that the discussion on the UCC actual collocation is sterile.. we always known his centrist position, and we have respect for it ; In addition cooperation and alliance is possible also with different identities.

Random fact: In order for a Cabinet bill to pass, more than half of the legislature must vote for it and all of the parties included in the proposed Cabinet must support it. If your nation has a Head of State who is also the Head of Government, then the party controlling this character must also vote for the bill, since the Head of Government is also a member of the Cabinet. If any of these requirements are not met, the bill will not pass.

Random quote: "For among other evils caused by being disarmed, it renders you contemptible; which is one of those disgraceful things which a prince must guard against." - Niccolo Machiavelli
