Bill: Expansion of Abortion Rights Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Saiserist League

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2496

Description[?]:

"We already, thank God, provide extensive freedoms to our nations women. However, this should be taken to the logical conclusion. Any woman who has waited until the third trimester to abort her baby has almost certainly intended to deliver the baby, but complications have developed along the way. In 99% of these cases where a woman wants to abort her baby at this stage, the baby is either dead, or terminally deformed, or some such thing that both negates the entire point of delivery and imperils the life of the mother. We call upon all parties of Zardugal to take this chance to stand up for women's rights. Thank you for your time."

-Daniel Vladimirovich Feterokov, Chairman of the Revolutionary Socialist Party

MessageNo. This is a ridiculous suggestion. Weeks, or in some cases months before giving birth these featuses can feel pain and are just as living as you or me, except for the fact that they are not physically born yet.

MessageNo. The idea that they are 'living', is a blatant lie spread by the conservative media and pundits to smokescreen the issue, and (as callous as this might sound, but it is true) fetuses right up to the moment of birth are water-breathing parasites. We take the enlightened step of drawing the line at birth, until that time they are the property of their mother (and father, but that's another issue). Plus, does anyone really believe that a mother who intends to cancel the pregnancy will wait more than six months to do it, while she develops maternal feelings and progressively increasing moral doubts? It is crueler to deliver an unwanted baby, so that the baby will be raised in an inadequate, resentful atmosphere, and it will fundamentally alter the lives of the parents. That is ridiculous, and downright cruel. Plus, as we've stated, the only people who want abortions at that stage are mothers with whom the baby is dead or terminally deformed, so requiring a delivery at that stage is both pointless and perilous to the mother's well-being.

MessageWho are you to discriminate against deformed people/babies. If the baby is dead, then it's not an abortion really, because we are no longer talking about a living thing (all be it living inside of someone). If the baby is unwanted then, as you said, the baby can be terminated in the first trimeseter. Infact I don't know what's wrong with the 'morning after' pill, but if people are going to be that stupid then fair enough. Ok so the law at the moment allows them to get an abortion during the second trimester also. So there's really no excuse, plenty of time to decide whether they actually want the baby or not.

"progressively increasing moral doubts" well her's a morality check for you: killing of something (maybe not 'living' under your dictionary) that has it's own senses and feelings, independant from its mother, and will feel the second that it is being killed because it is not 'wanted'.

MessageWhat about the fact that abortions put a significant strain on the mother, and that the longer a pregnancy goes, the more risky it is to abort?

Message"What about it? Who are you to tell a women what she can and can't do with her own body. Up until that fetus takes it's first breath, completely independent of it's mother's body, it is not a life. It's a organ, a parasite. Ugly way to think of them but abortion is ugly. However, like global warming, it's an ugly truth."

Message"We would like our comrades in the Irish Party to know that we respect their position, and that now we are debating over semantics. Even if the baby is dead, aborting it remains abortion under every national law (OOC: sadly Particracy doesn't carry an additional option). What we are affirming is exactly what the Irish Party has stated, that every mother who wants the baby aborted will have done so in the first or second trimesters instead of waiting, and virtually all, perhaps all, late-term abortions are from when complications develop, such as the discovery that the baby is dead, and continuing with delivery imperils the mother. Late-term abortions are riskier than early abortions, but they remain safer than delivery, especially delivering a dead, terminally deformed or otherwise complicated baby, which the current law forces on mothers."
