Bill: Essential Services Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Novy Smer Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2106
Description[?]:
Education and health care are vital services in any civilization. The idea that one can buy and sell advantage over others in these areas is morally repugnant. The private sector involvement in these areas takes the best teachers and doctors away from those that need them most - the poor. Therefore to equalise access to these services for all the Aldegari people, regardless of wealth, we should end the private market in these services. |

Message | We are against this and will not support it, people should have the choice to go to a public or privet clinic; it all just depends on who the person is. |

Message | We support the existence of some kind of private sector in the areas of education and health. This is essential, not just on libertarian grounds, but to provide the innovation and choice that a public sector monopoly often fails to provide. If nothing else, a private sector keeps the public sector 'on its toes'. Correctly used, the private sector can also be used to relieve some of the problems being dealt with by the public sector. We also warn that if we ban private education and healthcare, some of Aldegar's key economic players will become disgruntled, leaving the country and taking their money and skills elsewhere to equip our international competitors. There is also no guarantee that the education and health professionals currently working in the private sector would move into the public sector if the private sector was banned. Many of them would either make career moves, to get jobs in more lucrative areas in business etc., or move abroad where they can earn far more money in countries that have (as Aldegar currently has) a vibrant private sector in health and education. Getting the balance right between public and private is a complex matter, and there may well be a lot of things that should be done differently than at present, but banning private education and health altogether is NOT the answer. |

Random fact: Voters have an extra appreciation for bills that actually get passed, so if you want to maximally take profit from your votes, make sure you compromise with others. |
