Bill: National Referendum
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dorvish Popular Front
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill requests an early election. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline. Elections will be held immediately if the bill passes.
Voting deadline: February 2498
Description[?]:
No party has proposed any legislation for nearly a year, which gives us the impression this term is pretty much dead. Furthermore, this term has witnessed far-reaching and bitterly controversial reforms. In the interests of democracy, we at the GDP feel the Directorate should be dissolved with new elections to allow the people to respond to what must be the greatest and most radical set of reforms in Dorvik has witnessed for centuries. |
Proposals
Article 1
Arrange early elections as soon as this bill passes.

Message | There is no reason to call for elections simply because the Directorate is dormant. Bills that are proposed can clearly be passed or defeated based on the smaller party's swing votes, which means that we're not at a standstill but simply do not find it necessary to propose a bill at this time. If we are to hold early elections now, then we might as well hold them every time we're within 8 months of the next election because no bills can be proposed in that time frame and pass before elections. |

Message | You misinterpret our arguments. We never said, believed or gave the impression that bills could not be passed or defeated based upon smaller party's votes, and are unsure where you got this interpretation from. The dormancy of the Directorate is but a small part of our argument - the more important tenet of our position is that this term has seen enormous changes being enacted in Dorvik, and that we feel giving the public the chance to express their opinion on the changes is healthy for our democracy. The lack of bills in the Directorate merely means we have an oppurtunity to consult the public regarding these issues without causing unjustified disruption to the legislative process. |

Message | Perhaps we shall let the public view these bills as they are implemented before holding an election... I find the current election date quite satisfying. |
