Bill: Motto

Details

Submitted by[?]: Imperial Pluralism Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2500

Description[?]:

Admittedly, the current motto is somewhat difficult for non-Sekowans to read, so we propose that the language be Pailesian instead of Tsekwon. It is useful to remember that 88% of the population speaks Pailesian, making it the most widely spoken language in the nation.

MessageAlso 88% of the populace can't speak that, since large minorites speak the other four major languages as well.

I calculated the results of the census and gave them there own wiki page.

MessageWe dislike favouring one dialect over the other. We would probably vote in favour simply for the sake of populism, but the current motto is correctly capitalized, where the proposed motto is not.

MessagePailesian-37%
English-20%
Modern Sekowan-15%

Forgot to add that, those are the top three first languages in Sekowo, though there are 10 major or significant languages.

MessageNo, you are wrong. Pailesian is 88% percent of the population.

MessageI tried adding all the percwnts up with that, it came to more than 100, so I had to redo them.

MessageThere is actually nothing wrong with linguistic percentages adding up to be more than 100%. Sekowo is not purely monolingual. However, if linguistic percentages add to more than 300%, something is likely wrong.

MessageWe're going by a 100%= all though.

Besides, IM O it makes more sense that French is spoken by 8% of the population rather than by less than 1% etc.

MessageBut that makes no sense linguistically. Even native language speaker numbers can often fall at over 100% (though virtually never more than 110%), as individuals can be raised with two languages on occasion
