Bill: Sexual Responsibility Act

Status[?]: passed

Voting deadline: July 2039
Description[?]:
It is our strong belief that it is always better to prevent a problem from occurring in the first place than to attempt to fix it later on. Unwanted pregnancy is no exception. Therefore, we propose that the government should encourage the use of contraception while discouraging abortions. |

Message | I'd like to see some comments on this... how about you, DSP? |

Message | We will never accept any restriction on the rights of a woman to control her own body and we believe this right is essential in any society where equality between both sexes is protected. While we would support subsidised or free contraception which should help to reduce the number of abortions we will only vote for this as a seperate bill as there will still be circumstances where a woman might want to terminate her pregnancy beyond the limit which article one is attempting to enforce. |

Message | We don't see how abortion has anything to do with equality between the sexes, nor do we see the logic behind the idea that a human being (male or female) should have the option to surgically remove a body part for no good medical reason. What if someone said he/she wanted to have a perfectly healthy kidney removed? Would you support that, too? |

Message | Kidneys don't tend to screw up your life. If one does, you get it removed. By your logic, we'd outlaw piercings. And vasectomies. |

Message | Since you can give up a baby for adoption, it doesn't have to screw up more than 9 months of your life. And piercings don't involve the removal of whole organs. Neither do vasectomies. |

Message | Abortion is very much to do with women's equality since men are already free from the burden of pregnancy and abortion allows women equal rights to avoid a pregnancy they are unhappy with. |

Message | No, CONTRACEPTION allows women to avoid a pregnancy they are unhappy with. With widely available contraception and sexual education in schools, there is no excuse for abortions that are not medically necessary. |

Message | Besides, it's not like I'm asking to ban abortion or anything... I know there might also be good non-medical reasons to perform an abortion (for example if the pregnancy was the result of rape), which is why I support first trimester abortions. |
