Bill: DSP.017.2503 (Leaving the Pontesi Treaty)
Details
Submitted by[?]: 帝国公明党 (Teikoku Kōmeitō)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2504
Description[?]:
My fellow representatives, as many of you know several decades ago we entered a Free Trade and Non-Aggression treaty with Pontesi. However Pontesi has now become a Fascist state, denying its people civil liberties, going so far as to wanting to allow its troops to shoot and kill people for simply gathering. Beyond that they have continued to attack a neighboring country to claim land that is not recognized as theirs. Because of this we believe that it is time to leave this treaty, to show Pontesi and the world that we will not be associated with such actions. |
Proposals
Article 1

Message | The moral/ethical reasons should be enough. We are trading with a country that denies its people basic civil rights, is planning on shooting anyone in groups larger than 5 people, is attacking another country to expand its tyrannical regime and came to power by blatantly lieing to the people. By continuing to be part of this treaty we are saying that we are somehow fine with this. |

Message | The voters of Pontesi are Moral Conservatives, Religious Fanatics, and militant! They have elected a government that suits their beliefs. Just because the DSP believes a certain thing is wrong, does not make it so. By attempting to force your system of beliefs on others, you show your true colors. The DSP is full of nothing but pig headed socialist tyrants. |

Message | Perhaps our vote of "no" will encourage the liberal parties of Sekowo to think more carefully about entering into such treaties in the future. |

Message | Blocking trade from an unfree Fascist state is hardly diminishing anyones rights. Perhaps if the IC got over it's obsession with unfettered free trade and near isolationism they would see that. |
Date | 09:18:45, December 21, 2007 CET | From | Normand Pluralist Party | To | Debating the DSP.017.2503 (Leaving the Pontesi Treaty) |
Message | We don't see how the DSP can single-handedly block all naval traffic from Pontesi. |
Date | 14:15:43, December 21, 2007 CET | From | Independence Coalition | To | Debating the DSP.017.2503 (Leaving the Pontesi Treaty) |
Message | What about those in Sekowo that depend on imports from Pontesi to make a living, what about their rights? The merchants who ship them? The dockworkers who unload them? The Freight Drivers who move them? You are destroying their right to economic self-advancement. Is it your goal to keep all the people of Sekowo in poverty as well under a tyrannical socialist regime? |
Date | 02:45:27, December 22, 2007 CET | From | 帝国公明党 (Teikoku Kōmeitō) | To | Debating the DSP.017.2503 (Leaving the Pontesi Treaty) |
Message | The PSA has a naval wing, plus we still control part of the navy from the civil war, which is technically still going on. Pontesian shipments do not make up a large enough part of total imports to affect the jobs of any of our citizens. |

Random fact: Parties have the ability to endorse another party's candidate for the Head of State election (if there is one). This adds a strategic element to the elections. |
