Bill: Gated Communities Act 2105

Details

Submitted by[?]: We Say So! Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2106

Description[?]:

In order to reduce the feeling of seperation within communities, and to allow easier access by Police into all areas of the community when required, Gated Communities will be withdrawn from public use as they serve no meaningful purpose except to highlight the divisions surrounding society.
All staff that may be employed currently as security of these communities will be offered positions within the Police Force so as not to have any adverse effect on employment.

MessageI see no reason to force people out of their homes for really no good reason. They made a decision to live in a gated community, why should the government force them out. As to feeling the seperation within communities, the same argument can be made for government subsidised housing and those people who live there. I don't believe in dictating where people can live.

MessageWhy should we decide whether people can have gated communities if they so wish to? I doubt that our police training system would be able to support the influx of old security guards as well as the normal recruitment levels. What happens to guards who do not wish to join the police?

MessageWho are we to say who can go where? Peoplecould be refused into such communities simply because they don't live there - they wouldn't be able to stand on the pavement (which would be the property of the government!) We agree that gated communities are elitist and scaremongered and we'll certainly support any measure to forbid them.

Message"I see no reason to force people out of their homes for really no good reason." - At what point does the above bill force people out of their homes? All that would happen would be that the large walls seperating them from the rest of society would be removed, they would not be removed from their housing.

"I doubt that our police training system would be able to support the influx of old security guards as well as the normal recruitment levels." - Why do you assume that the security guards would be old? Generally most security personnel employed by private companies for the security of gated communities are young and fit in order to provide the best security. We would also ask why the UB believes that the Police would be unable to cope with increased levels of possible recruits, this would not be a problem into any other occupation and we do not forsee any problems for the Police.

"What happens to guards who do not wish to join the police?" - They would not be forced to and would be allowed to apply for other work, as would any other member of the citizenry.

Message"Why do you assume that the security guards would be old?" - Old in the sense of former security guards

"We would also ask why the UB believes that the Police would be unable to cope with increased levels of possible recruits" - This bill would generate a one time large increase in recruits. The present police training facilities and training staff can only deal with a certain amount of recruits and the amount they can train is only slightly above the normal recruiting levels. By adding a large number of extra people you will either have to sacrifice the quality of training or move police officers from active service to help with training. You will also have to work out where the funding for these extra officers and the approporiate training and equipment will come from

"They would not be forced to and would be allowed to apply for other work, as would any other member of the citizenry." - So basically you want to sack the all people working to maintain gated communities without compensation.

MessageAdmittedly, my RL knowledge of gated communities is limited as I have never come into contact with one (except being shown Eminem's one in suburban Detroit). Whilst people are obviously entitled to as much or as little security in and around their own home as they place, I do not see the reasoning behind restricting access to an entire community.

MessageTo be honest I don't see why we should stop people from doing so if they wish to.

MessageIf they choose to live there, it is their choice. We shouldn't prevent anyone from living where they choose to live. It is not a prison cell their in.
