Message | In recent years, we have made great strides in civil liberties, including sexual freedoms. The Keepin' It Sexy Act resolves the three outstanding areas of law that restrict freedom of sexual expression. Again, it is our position that the government should not act as a babysitter for our free and educated population. |

Message | I agree with all acts except the third. So long as parents are responsible with what their children watch, I see little harm in it. A campaign should precede full enactment of this bill. |

Message | We agree with the principle of this act, but we have one significant reservation about its premise. Namely, what of the children with bad parents? Are we to allow them to be traumatized because their parents are apathetic about their welfare? And all in the name of an empty gesture that is not true freedom. |

Message | Those voting against this bill are making some erroneous and unfounded assumptions. Namely: (1) Assuming that exposure to sexual content and themes in the media is somehow harmful to society, and children especially. Where is the evidence that supports the claim that exposure to sexual content is "traumatizing" to children? And if the parents are not making judgments for children as to what kind of sexual content is appropriate, exactly where does the state or the media draw the line? How is "sexually explicit" defined? (2) Assuming that broadcasters will make decisions that are contrary to the will of the community. Remember, there are no more private corporations holding TV stations, they are all owned by worker co-operatives on a non-profit basis. Is there any reason to assume media workers do not have the best interests of society at heart? Can we not trust them to balance freedom of expression with general community standards of obscenity? |

Message | As we keep saying when these stupid bills are proposed: parents can not be around their children all the time. Let's say they don't want their children watching porn....they shouldn't fear leaving their children alone with a TV incase they do stumble onto it. |

Message | "Oh, won't somebody please think of the children?" = biggest red herring argument in the book. Why don't you address the arguments we made? Once again, opponents are erroneously assuming that (1) exposure to sexual content is harmful to children, regardless of what that content may be and (2) television stations are not going to act responsibly when it comes to scheduling. This is a bill about basic freedom of expression and the right of society to self-regulate without the interference of the government, which is what any mature society should be able to do. It is appalling how little faith many politicians have in the people of Zardugal. Yes, just keep piling on the regulations, because everybody needs the Irish Party and others to act as their nannies, because politicians know oh so much better what is good for people than anybody else. |
