MessageThe current proposal doesn't prevent anyone from attending a university. The student just pay's back a certain amount of aid that they recieved after they graduate. So the bill up for debate will not increase the amount of students who recieve an education, because the current law already pays tuition.

MessageMore people would attend college with this bill because low income students will not be intimidated by having to pay back a certain amount.

MessageThey pay back what they can afford and when they are secure enough financilally. If they can't pay it back due to lack of money, they are not forced to pay. They pay when they can.

MessageThe idea that more people will attend University because the Government fully subsidises tuition is a fallacy. There is no evidence supporting that more students would attend University with a modification of the system than would currently attend.
We would also point out the massive increase in Government expenditure that would be required to provide completely free education to all University students, money which could be used to improve primary and secondary education not to mention University education.
At present students are only required to repay their loans if and when they reach over a certain income threshold. Should these students never reach this threshold than they are not required to repay any of their loan. The current system allows for higher expenditure into the educational system whilst also maintaining educational excellence at an overall reduced cost due to the allowance of the repayment system allowing students to directly improve the system by repaying the loan provided by Government. This is not only a good system, but also a cost effective system.

MessageWe'll stand with the WSS and LPU on this. Unless evidence can be shown that free tuition increases university attendence significantly then we cannot support the higher costs that it brings with it.

MessageOut of game proof would be fine. As for the befits of the current system - we have to pay less money and people can still go to university if they so wish
