Bill: Responsible Government Restoration Act of 2513, Part I

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Rationalists (PrCoa)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2514

Description[?]:

This bill proposes to being the process of restoring Aloria's federal spending to responsible levels. Note:
THERE IS A TYPO IN A LINE ITEM IN THIS BILL. It was not our intent to slash Trade and Industry to 10,000,000 ALOs. We will correct this error in our next budget proposal, if this one passes.

Message1) The chief expenses of Head of Government are office expenses and salaries. Incidentally, parliamentary expenses and salaries ALSO come out of this budget (since they don't seem to fit logically anywhere else).

2) Foreign Affairs: Out of this budget comes funding not only for all of our embassies, but a significant portion of our intelligence network. at 147,000,000, we've shut down most of our embassies, and our intelligence operation consists of a couple of nerdy guys surfing the internet.

3) Internal Affairs is charged with oversight of the rest of government. This department performs audits of spending of the other branches, as well as ethical and legal oversight.

4) Defense: This is our military. The one general we have left has asked that we update our hardware. The catapults we have are getting old. With this money, we can at least buy some new ones.

5) I & T: Is it still properly called a "pothole" if your whole car falls in? Aloria's infrastructure has crumbled. This money will restore its status to "crumbling."

6) H & SS: Public hospitals would like to have at least enough money to hire janitors.

7) E & C: This is where money for programs like scholarships and government paid tuition comes from. At current levels, we just can't afford to pay for all of Aloria's students to go to school. We'd like to. We'd support revenue enhancements aimed at achieving that goal.

8) Sci and Tech: One of the generals said there's better weapons even than catapults out there these days. Maybe we should develop some...

9) Food and Ag: This is an important department, but its chief expenses are office supplies and investigators to do agricultural reports.

10) Env and T: Not even the internal affairs guys know what this department does. Their last report advised us to just make sure their funding levels are adequate, and NOT TO LOOK TO HARD INTO DO. Something about "the abyss gazes also."

11) T&I: Important department. One of its chief jobs is mediating strikes in critical industries. Needs more funding than we've given them. We'll increase it next year.

MessageIf this bill passes, Aloria's national government spending will constitute about %3 of GDP. At current levels, national government spending accounts for about %1.

Random fact: Voters have an extra appreciation for bills that actually get passed, so if you want to maximally take profit from your votes, make sure you compromise with others.
