Bill: Anarch Anakrousite Reform Bill - Marriage
Details
Submitted by[?]: Commonwealth Workers Army
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2106
Description[?]:
In the interests of democracy, in the interests of non-partisanship, and in the interests of non-discrimination - the AAP would like to table for debate (again) the issue of marriage. The current definition of marriage allows tax-exemptions and reliefs, special circumstances and benefits, to ONE group of the population, while ignoring others, PURELY on the basis of their sexuality. While there MAY be some reason to limit RELIGIOUS marriage to one sexuality or gender-orientation, the Anarch Anakrousite party believes there is no LEGITIMATE reason to prevent same sex couples from being wed in purely SECULAR ceremonies. Thus, the Anarch Anakrosite party would like to suggest that, since there is no 'religious' stipulation in the constitution, the CIVIL form of wedding be made available to ALL Likatonian adults. Note: This issue is mainly of interest to those in the homosexual community who are ALREADY living in long-term stable relationships, but being deprived of rights like 'tax-breaks for married couples'. Thus, it merely gives equality of benefits, and formal recognition of a state of play that ALREADY exists. |
Proposals
Article 1

Old value:: The government only recognises civil marriages between a man and a woman.

Message | In light of recent debate over this very issue, the Anarch Anakrousite Party wishes to take an 'acid-test' referendum of support for various interpretations of the 'civil union'. As such, this Bill has been selected to be pushed straight through for immediate voting. |

Message | No. I am afriad that we must disagree with the AAP totally over this issue. Marriage must remain between one man and one women. Marriage must remain a privilage for those hoping to raise a family within a secure framework. This law allows all consenting adults to marry, there is nothing stopping it being applied to incesteous coupls, or even multiple couples in the future. We must make a stand now and prevent a further decline in the moral health of our nation. |

Message | I fully support this bill. Homosexuals should not be discriminated against, they should have the same legal rights and opportunities to have their relationships socially accepted and recognised as any heterosexual couple. |

Message | Response to CPL: Why must "Marriage must remain a privilige for those hoping to raise a family within a secure framework?" There are many married Likatonians with no children, due to lack of desire for family, or fertility problems. Are you declaring all such unions null and void, under Likatonian law? And, how do you justify choosing one gender-orientation over another? If marriage IS about raising families within secure frameworks... why limit that right to heterosexual parents? |

Message | Response to the LPE: We appreciate your concerns. The AAP lacks any real power to lead or coordinate voting, also. It is a pity that so many of the Likatonian votes are effectively inactive on so many issues. |
