Bill: Property Siezure Proposal
Details
Submitted by[?]: New-Revolutionary Communist Party (NRCP)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2516
Description[?]:
In any nation, the people are governed by the ruling administration. However, the terminology applied is that the country itself is ruled by the government, and that government has authority over the land. Thus, logically, the government must have the legal power to seize areas of land from private ownership for the benefit of the nation, providing that the previous owner can be economically reimbursed. |

Proposal[?] to change Eminent Domain.
Old value:: The government may not seize private property.

Proposed: The government may seize private property for vital government works.
Article 2

Old value:: A neutral body appointed by the courts determines the compensation, either party may appeal.

Proposed: The government determines compensation for victims of eminent domain.

Message | Article 1 is just unacceptable. We would be willing to allow it if "vital goverment works" would include only military and their needs in defending our country. |

Message | To the DLA - Surely if you are willing to defend the people of the Republic through land seizure, adverse economic effects are equally vital to manage successfully - in the event of a stock market crash for example, it would be prudent to seize areas of farmland from private hands (even temporarily) in order to prevent overproduction, which can so quickly lead to a collapse of the farming industry and ultimately famine. Clearly then, the power to seize land must be universally available to the government, not just for military actions. |

Random fact: Players consent to the reasonable and predictable consequences of the role-play they consent to. For example, players who role-play their characters as committing criminal offences should expect those characters to experience the predictable judicial consequences of that. |
Random quote: "When we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, 'Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!'" - Martin Luther King Jr. |
