MessageThe LPE here experiences and ideological split. Some members of our party are in favour of this bill as it protects biodiversity and the livelihood of traditional farmers, others are against it because of its limitations of freedom (which our party is eager to preserve where possible) and because of the economic advantages of GM crops.

MessageShouldn't we just allow market forces to determine if the MARKET wants GM foods?

The AAP recommends labelling all GM foods as GM foods, and let the good Likatonian people vote with their wallets.

MessagePollen from GM crops does not discriminate between GM and non GM crops. Despite segregating GM and non GM crops, GM pollen will pollute non GM crops, therefore within a few generations most non-GM crops would be contaminated, thereby disabling choice.

MessageResponse to CPL: Likatonia is not an island. We live near other nations, and BOTH of our nearest neighbours (The Peoples Federation of Lodamun, and the Valruzian Federation) allow full GM research and full GM agriculture. As with our currently standing law, all they require is GM to be labelled as such.

Pollen is no respecter of borders, we are getting GM pollen anyway, regardless of our legislature... but such bleedover should be minor - and can even be screened for. Thus, we see no reason why we shouldn't continue to allow the CHOICE for/against GM, just as we do currently.

MessageThis has been up for debate for a while now, so we are proceeding to vote.

Unfortunately we still disagree with the AAP and as such have not amended this bill.

MessageThe AAP appreciates the sympathies of the CPL, and agrees to disagree. We shall, however, be voting against this bill - as we believe it curtails business freedoms, and harms our produce economy.

MessageAs long as the food is properly labeled to allow freedom of choice based on accurate information, the RLP sees no reason to restrict progress and business. We must therefore vot against this bill.
